The Ballet Production

• "Paranoid-Critical" Vision: Dalí referred to Bacchanale as his first "paranoid-critical ballet" and viewed it as an all-encompassing total work of art. He did not just paint the backdrop; he also wrote the libretto, designed the costumes, and controlled the overarching creative vision.

• Inspiration: The narrative was inspired by the Greek myth of Leda and the Swan, as well as the dreams of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, set to the Tannhäuser overture by Richard Wagner.

• Collaborators: The production featured choreography by Léonide Massine and costume design contributions by fashion icon Coco Chanel.
